Latest Updates from Our Project:

Into the final 24 hours...
over 3 years ago – Fri, Nov 06, 2020 at 01:02:21 AM

Hi ZapBoxers,

We’re now into the final 24 hours of the campaign, and we’re thrilled to have already reached 113% of our funding goal.

Thanks to you we’ve smashed through our first stretch goal target so we have already allocated $2500 to the ZapBox Community Development Fund, and we’re within touching distance of the next milestone that will boost the fund to $5000.

For those of you who are following the project but have not yet pledged, this is the perfect time to get involved! The multipack discounts and developer bundles will only be available through Kickstarter, and by backing the project now you’ll help us keep pushing towards those stretch goals to add even more to our Community Development Fund.

Don’t miss out - back all-new ZapBox now!

Thanks so much for all of your support so far. That’s it from us until tomorrow when the campaign ends and hopefully we’ll be able to declare victory without needing any recounts :)

We’ve reached our funding goal! 🎉
over 3 years ago – Wed, Nov 04, 2020 at 10:41:43 PM

Hi ZapBoxers,

We did it! 🎉🎉🎉

Sixty-five thousand dollars pledged towards all-new ZapBox and the affordable mixed reality revolution, all thanks to 590 of you, our amazing backers.

We’ve still got just over three days left of the campaign and we’d love to keep pushing that total higher and bringing more people into the ZapBox community. To help encourage everyone to keep on backing the project, we’re adding some stretch goals to fund a ZapBox Community Development Fund.

We’ll use this fund to help developers in the community build content for ZapBox. We’ve got a few ideas in mind for how we could use the fund - cash prizes for open development contests, or grants for community members wanting to port existing content to ZapBox or to help bring entirely new ideas to life. After the campaign we’ll run a community vote to hammer out the details about how we should use the fund to bring more content to ZapBox.

For every additional $5k we reach over our original $65k goal, we’ll add $2.5k into the development fund, up to a maximum of a $10k fund if we hit $85k.

Pledge Upgrades

Along with encouraging new backers in these final few days, this is also the final chance to consider upgrading your existing pledges! The multi-pack pledge levels offer great per-unit discounts and cheaper per-unit shipping, and will only be available at these prices during the campaign.

There are also the developer bundles (either “The Developer Bundle” or “The Collaborative Developer”) which are exclusive to Kickstarter backers and the only way to get early access to our Unity plugin for content development.

We’ve decided to allow “All-new ZapBox Early Bird” backers who would also like access to the developer bundle to upgrade - if you want to do this, then keep your selected reward tier the same but increase your pledge by $25 to bring it to the same pricing as the “Early Bird Developer Bundle” backers.

Again we wanted to thank you all for helping us to make all-new ZapBox a reality and we look forward to continuing the adventure together!

Exploring all-new ZapBox - 3D visualisation
over 3 years ago – Sun, Nov 01, 2020 at 02:08:54 PM

Hi ZapBoxers,

We are nearly there! As we enter the final week of the campaign we are at 87% funded and climbing. We wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support and say that we believe together we can reach our goal and bring all-new ZapBox to life.

In the meantime…

We’ve been busily working on some ways you can experience a little of all-new ZapBox right now!

Virtual try-on

We have now launched our own WebAR virtual try-on for all-new ZapBox!

Scan the code below with your smartphone’s camera or scanning app (if you’re reading this on a desktop) or if you’re already using your phone just follow the link >> https://webxr.run/yYJWAkdyy0Mk7

Please note that absolute scale is not known in face-tracked WebAR experiences, so this gives a general idea of how the product looks but is not shown exactly to scale.

Now on Sketchfab!

We have also posted our ZapBox models on Sketchfab for you to explore:

We love Sketchfab for the ease with which it allows people to share and explore 3D content on the web, and we’re really excited about bringing general “model viewing” functionality to all-new ZapBox so developers and designers can view and share their 3D creations at scale in 6-DoF Mixed Reality.  That’s another one of the many possibilities we’d love to explore once we’ve reached our funding goal, so if you haven't already please do share the campaign with anyone you think might be interested!

We also had a blast with The Digital Acid...

We wanted to thank THE DIGITAL ACID for having us on last week - it was great fun and we were blown away by the enthusiasm for the project!

That’s it for now ZapBoxers. Thanks for all the support and remember to share the campaign with anyone else you think might be interested!

Hi there ZapBoxers,

Want to find out more about the secrets behind the reinvented design of all-new ZapBox?

We took a trip to the Isle of White (when we were allowed to travel a bit more easily!) to visit our ZapBox product designer Steven Spong and find out all about the idea and design process behind all-new ZapBox.

We hope you enjoy and we’ll be back with more all-new ZapBox updates soon!

Keeping it real... As-live ZapBox walkthrough
over 3 years ago – Fri, Oct 30, 2020 at 10:12:25 AM

Hi ZapBoxers,

One of our backers got in touch via the comments to ask us to show some more footage of real-world tracking for all-new ZapBox.

The algorithms for tracking the new D3 markers are still under development and not yet production-ready, but the next best thing we thought we could do was to show a longer-form as-live walkthrough of the current ZapBox app for the cardboard iterations.

Simon took some time out from changing nappies to film a walkthrough and talk through some interesting aspects and some things that will be changing for all-new ZapBox. Backers who have pledged for the Developer Bundle will also receive a cardboard ZapBox straight after the campaign, so this should give a good idea of what you should be able to achieve with the cardboard product.

The all-new ZapBox D3 markers are designed to allow us to push tracking quality even further than you can see in this video, and we’re looking forward to sharing our progress on those algorithms in future updates.
